The 5th Eastern India Regional Council Meeting of the Association for Technical Market Analysts (ATMA) was held in Kredent Academy on February 4th, 2012.

ATMA is a not-for-profit organization for Financial Technical Analysts in India formed to promote and educate the public and the investment community in India about the use of Technical Analysis in making sound investment decisions to facilitate free and fair exchange of ideas, thoughts, intellect and wisdom in the field. ATMA is where the most successful, proficient, capable and qualified Technical Analysts of India assemble to share their collective wisdom. It is the only association in India that is affiliated with the Market Technicians Association, Inc. also popularly called the MTA (www.mta.org).

   

The speaker, Mr. Shubhadip Nandy, has over 20 years experience in the financial markets. He is currently the head of research of one of the top 3 proprietary trading firms in MCX and MCX-SX and a Director (Strategy Development) of a software company specializing on algorithmic trading. Mr. Nandi has successfully developed and deployed algorithmic trading solutions on MCX which work on principles of technical analysis.

The topics covered in the meeting pertained to Algorithmic Trading, its types and usefulness for technical traders, HFT vs Technical Rule based Algorithms, Trend Following vs Mean Reversion, Steps in creating an Algorithm (idea, coding, back testing, forward testing, going LIVE), Exchange Connections (FIX) and Money Management.

The three hour session was followed by an open forum discussion to facilitate the formation of ATMA plans and various committees.
